Pitchfork staff writer Cosmo Lee has a chat on a couch with the ferociously creative Nick Cave. They begin by talking about New York City, the setting for the title track from the latest Bad Seeds LP, and which Cave calls the "biggest, baddest city there is." They also talk about the influence of the Grinderman project on the Bad Seeds, where Grinderman might go next, and how a new audience for Cave's music has ...

"Little Joy is not going to stop the world or change your life, but it's one of the sweetest, most listenable, consistently enjoyable records of the season," wrote Stephen Troussé last week in his review of Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti's new project. "Sweet," "Listenable," and "Enjoyable" are three apt words for this Thunderbird-directed video for "Next Time Around", which finds Moretti, Rodrigo Amarante, and Binki Shapiro bringing the song's warm Caribbean lilt and breezy harmonies ...

Fleet Foxes on La Blogothèque's "Take Away Show": had to happen, and the results do not disappoint. It's a two-parter. First, the French website captures two of the Seattle outfit's finer harmony-drenched songs in Paris. A version of the a capella "Sun Giant" recorded in a city park as the band sits on the grass under an open sky. And following that is "Blue Ridge Mountains" recorded in an empty section of the historic structure ...

A lot of cool little details to pick out in this Hype Williams-directed clip. (via Discobelle) [from 808s and Heartbreak; due 11/25/08 from Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam]

Sigur Rós premiered the video for the anthemic "Við spilum endalaust" over at last.fm today. Image quality is lacking, pretty heavy-duty pixelation, but through the blocky video you can see footage of Jonsi and crew on tour, some random Super 8-looking travel videos, and weird masses of strobing flowers, all coming together to make you feel a little queasy. Nick Abrahams directs. Video:> Sigur Rós: "Við spilum endalaust"[from Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust; ...

Discussions of Bloc Party's music usually involve mention of their huge, squalling guitars. They're very much an electric band, which made them a difficult "get" for La Blogothèque's "Take Away Show". "We'd been told it would not be easy. A year before, we already tried to set a Take Away Show with them in London, with the support of JD Beauvallet, but nothing could convince them: they never play acoustic, they’re very shy, it’s impossible," ...

Last week Pitchfork news reported on the new Björk single "Nattura", which features Thom Yorke on backing vocals and which was recorded to help protect the Icelandic environment. According to text on the promo, the song "highlights a grass roots movement in Iceland to reclaim the country’s natural resources and wilderness from the hands of big business and pollution." Someone has uploaded the song to YouTube, which of course means that it may not be ...

Reviewing a reissue of the band Love's immortal third album, Pitchfork's Stephen M. Deusner noted, "Already veterans of the local scene when they released their third and best album, Love captured the city in all its grizzled glory on Forever Changes-- or, rather, Arthur Lee did. A charismatic black singer/songwriter in a mixed-race band but a generally white scene, he had soured on the hippies and sunshine mentality, and instead saw the Vietnam War, his ...

A few sites are reporting that "Everyone's At It", now streaming at Lily Allen's MySpace, will be the first single from her forthcoming album It's Not Me, It's You; I can't confirm that, but I can say it stacks up very well next to recent MySpace streams "I Don't Know", "I Could Say", and "Who'd of Known". There's a punchy beat here and finally a bit of energy, as she sings about the perils of ...

Wow, it's happening: Axl Rose really might wind up putting out this thing. Very early this morning, the title track from the once thought never-to-be-completed opus was played on New York's Q104.3, and right now they're streaming it. I have to admit that I haven't followed each twist and turn of every leak, so I can't say for sure how this allegedly final version of the tune stacks up. The important thing is it's there ...

Broken Social Scene with all hands on deck could be a tight squeeze in Juan's Basement, but this leaner version of the band, touring in support of Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew's Spirit If..., looks pretty comfortable down there. They do a sturdy version of the You Forgot It in People chestnut "Stars and Sons", sit for an interview where they talk booze, heat, and dietary supplements, and then return for an untitled jam. ...
