As if you didn't already spend enough time on the internet, Microsoft is looking to feed your addiction even further by developing a reliable "Vi-Fi" system for automobiles. The major problem that must be overcome is the fact that current Wi-Fi networks suffer hiccups in service as you pass through. This is especially true when moving out of the range of one base station and into another. To smooth the transition process, Microsoft and a ...

The guys at Think Geek are bringing R/C junkies one of the cheapest 3-channel mini choppers on the market with the new "Black Stealth." Unlike dinky 2-channel versions, the Black Stealth can handle forward flight with ease—or so they claim. In fact, Think Geek goes so far as to say that it is the easiest to fly small copter they have ever used. I would be kind of skeptical with a price tag of only ...

It appears that Instructables member lamedust has moved on from laser-etched tattoos and fingernails to the exciting world of pancake personalization. I don't even touch a pancake unless it has the entire Simpsons cast etched on it, so I was excited to see which of the three printing methods would work best for my time-consuming pancake problem. Check out the very annoying video above and decide for yourself. [Instructables]

Microsoft has confirmed the rumor floating around last week that IE 8 would get its own "porn mode"—or "private browsing mode" if you insist on being mature about it. Amusingly enough, they have dubbed their service InPrivate, which sounds even filthier if you ask me. UPDATE: Beta 2 is now available here. [IE Blog via The Register via BGR]

Earlier this year we came across a solution for hooking up surround sound with flat speaker cable that promised a quick and inconspicuous way to deal with cabling across a room. A company called OWLink is offering up another solution to this problem using their new transparent fiber optic cabling. The fiber itself measures a minuscule 9 millimeters in diameter and a clear, plastic covering not only protects it, but makes it nearly invisible to ...

If you are anything like me, you have waaaay too many gadgets plugged into your USB ports. I have a hub of course, but it is still hard to keep up with the insane amount of stuff you can plug in these days. That having been said, I am curious to know how bad things have really gotten. So, how many USB ports are currently in use on your computer? Gawker Media polls require Javascript; ...

The Axolute sink takes minimalism to such extremes that it completely does away with the drainpipe. If you are hoping that magic is somehow involved in removing the water, I hate to disappoint but the truth is actually very simple. The secret is patented “Horizontal Integrated Siphon” technology, which is just a fancy way of saying a horizontal drain. It's not quite as interesting as my beloved fossil washbasin, but I certainly wouldn't mind having ...

What kind of choices does the eccentric gentleman have when it comes to cufflinks? I mean, what goes really well with a loud suit? Actually, there are lots of bizarre cufflinks out there, but one of the best has to be these blue eyeball versions. The only way it could be better is if the eyeballs bounced around inside the case like those stickers we used to get as kids. Product Page ($45)

Martin Montesano's giant "Walking Beast" isn't the first robot spider ever made, but it is the only one I can recall that is this enormous and has the ability to take on passengers. His 12,000-pound, 23-foot-long creation was built over the course of three years at an expense of $50,000—and it can carry up to six passengers in its steel belly and two (including the driver) in the head. If you are fortunate enough to ...

Yes, DARPA does have a reputation for coming up with some seriously far-fetched gadgets, but their Super-Resolution Vision System (SRVS) is not one of them. This project challenges designers to come up with an optics system that utilizes heat haze to see further and clearer than ever before. Basically, it takes advantage of an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs whereby images can be magnified for fleeting moments behind the haze. DARPA hopes that the SRVS technology ...

Thanks to LEDs, the boring old streetlight is getting a fresh look from designers all over the world. Agustin Otegui's "Prisma" concept is among these new designs, and in addition to LEDs and solar power, it features a unique 3-way light system that allows for 30-degree customization in either direction. That means the lights can be used to highlight billboards, project logos on buildings or simply illuminate a specific area on the ground. In other ...
