If we deny God His rightful place in the affairs of this nation should we expect Him to intervene when we need protection? Just what do you think has kept us safe from terrorist attacks since 9/11? It certainly wasn't the atheists. - Charlie DanielsNow we know who dropped the ball on Sept. 11, 2001.I'm still perplexed that people still think that way.. as if the United States is the magical chosen land of God ...

Venus and the crescent moon. See it tonight (early). What a great way to end the year! Venus and Luna pair up to make a very nice sight in the west for a few hours after sunset. This image in no way does the sight justice. Before you go out for a night of SAFE revelry see it for yourself if you can! Happy New Year to all!

The other day I came across yet another announcement for a mobile phone with haptic feedback. In this case is was Samsung’s Yepp YP-P3 Haptic PMP. The device supposedly has a haptic touchscreen, but I’m still not clear if it does anything more than vibrate. So why is it that no one has created a compelling demonstration of the value of a haptic devices through audio and visual channels? I understand the challenge that comes ...

The rise of Twitter has bloggers doing more than the usual amount of navel gazing. "Is blogging dead?," many wonder. The online trend-setting Jason Calacanis probably did as much as anyone to get this ball rolling when he announced his retirement as a blogger back in July. Others, if not exactly calling it quits, have noticed a dip in their blogging productivity.Regular readers of The TrueTalk Blog will undoubtedly have noticed a (blessedly welcome?) decrease ...

Quick reference guides provide one or two page condensed instructions. Formats for quick reference guides vary dramatically and can involve complex, multi-colored layouts, or just simple text callouts next to a few images. The other day I stopped by a local thrift store (Desert Industries) and picked up a few magazines for $.25 cents a piece, looking for attractive layouts that I could use as quick reference guide formats. The format most appealing to me ...

The first release (0.19.0) from the 0.19 branch of Hadoop Core was made on November 24. Many changes go into a release like this, and it can be difficult to get a feel for the more significant ones, even with the detailed Jira log, change log, and release notes. (There’s also JDiff documentation, which is a great way to see how the public API changed, via a JavaDoc-like interface.) This post gives a high-level feel ...

The router is one of the most versatile tools in the shop. Dovetails, mortises, tenons, decorative profiles, rabbets… the list goes on and on. While they are extremely useful hand held, mounting them into a table dramatically expands their usefulness. I discovered this when I first bought a little bench top Skil router table for my tiny fixed-base Craftsman router. Suddenly, I was cutting joints and profiles I never new were possible. Things have really ...
