Filed under: Misc. Gadgets So we heard some really over-eager folks have decided to get a jump on the iPhone 3G line -- a really, really big jump. Obviously, we had to head down and see if it was true... and it is. Right now, about ten people have started a line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York. Word is that the family at the head of the queue are ...

Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital writes up a primer on getting used to the Mac you've finally bought after giving up on Windows. This column isn’t an argument for making the switch to a Mac, merely an attempt to help those who have done so, or who are considering doing so. Of course, all Macs currently sold can run Windows and Windows programs concurrently with the Mac operating system. Let us now rub our ...

It turns out that Apple made at least a few errors in designing the hardware of the MacBook Pro. After living with it for a solid week, I can report that, along with the useless ambient light sensor and wimpy power cord, both of the ‘Pro’s USB ports are compromised! The left side doesn’t have the power to spin up a disk drive, and the right side shares bandwidth with the iSight camera built into ...

By Michael Santo Editor-in-Chief, RealTechNews Without much fanfare, Apple has made a couple of pretty significant price cuts to the MacBook Air. The total of the cuts comes to a pretty nice $500. First, the price of the 64 GB SSD (meaning flash ram-based) drive has been dropped $400, from $999 to $599 (see above). Second, the price [...]

Microsoft is now offering iPods (nano, shuffle & touch) to promote Live Search in Australia. The company said that using a competitor’s products in this way is frowned upon. However, the Zune is not available in Australia, making them use iPods as part of the offer to acquire some extra search traffic. In the US, Microsoft is putting lots of money into search in an attempt to gain on Google. For example, earlier this week ...

It seems that our obsession with hacking the current iPhone and refusing to pay for expensive contracts is about to be punished as the UK is only going to get very 'limited' stock of the new iPhone 3G. A deep throat inside one iPhone retailer told Electricpig that just 15% of the iPhones sold since the last price drop have been put on the O2 network - the rest have been hacked and are on ...

Apple has dropped the price of its solid state drive MacBook Air by $500. Now, the useless laptop equipped with a solid state drive can be had for the low, low price of $2,598. That’s with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Note that the upgrade price from the 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz has also dropped, from $300 to $200. Not that solid state drives save you any battery power, mind you. via AppleInsider
