I’ve been thinking about bloggers, blogging, memes, and this entire ecosystem from a macro-POV over the past few days. What caused me to think about it… I’m not sure, but nonetheless, I’m down the path and wanted to throw a few ideas out there. In early 00s, I spent enough time in the music industry to understand the problems that we hear about everyday. Essentially, the music industry for the most part, relies on the ...

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of trademarked terms meant to make something sound better than it is, and MLB’s NextDef is a case in point. But MLB and Swarmcast have created a service that works very well and they should be applauded for it. No, a 1.2 Mbps stream won’t give you high definition, it’s not going to knock your socks off if attached to a large screen, but it is the highest ...

Feedoor, is an interesting feed management service that aims to give users complete control over their feeds, and the flexibility to do whatever they want with them. The service is quite simple and straightforward, packing a number of features in its corners. Some of the most important and interesting of these features are the following; it gives users the possibility to: Combine and splice several feeds of different formats (RSS, ATOM, RDF) into one feed. ...

It has only been within this current year when I realized a serious difference in the way I was generating traffic for my blogs. I realized that it is no longer any use to me to simply link to great articles. It is an epic waste of time. I am no longer concerning myself with posting frequency on my own blogs; instead, I will be focusing on creating only quality content. It doesn't matter if ...

Flash content on the Web may be slow-loading and occasionally nonintuitive, but at least now it’s searchable. Adobe (ADBE) has conceived of a way for search engines to index Flash content, even pre-existing Flash content, without the need for developer intervention. It’s made content encoded in the Flash file format (SWF), which was previously undiscoverable to search engines, discoverable–and it’s given Google (GOOG) and Yahoo (YHOO) the tools necessary to discover it. As Ryan Stewart, ...

Five days ago, Facebook introduced the ability for users to comment on items in other users’ Mini-Feeds. Although this is certainly an interesting function and provides an additional means of interacting with contacts, is it enough to keep users engaged with the site? The mystery I’ve noticed something over the past year or so: that Facebook is becoming less and less a service for interacting, communicating, and socializing and more a utility for looking up ...

This post has a few ideas for listening and keeping up with the constant flow of information in the blogosphere. Kathy Flanders asked me to blog about fire ants--not really. She wanted me to describe how lurking and being "part of the conversation" can help us spread educational knowledge and help others with their problems. Some would ...

The demand for new and original (real estate) content is insatiable. Duplicate content is making its way around the real estate blog world, and I am trying to determine if this is a necessarily “bad thing.” There are myriad discussions and opinions about duplicate content’s impact on search engine results. Google had a recent blog post specifically addressing duplicate content due to scrapers. One of the key concepts of the real estate blogging space has ...

Traditionally, publishers have viewed websites as content destinations, challenging marketers to drive traffic to specific websites in order to engage consumers with relevant content. Today, the model has changed. Increasingly, publishers are uncoupling online content from its host site; marketers are learning to syndicate this content online or encouraging others to do so virally. Jupiter Research has defined this trend as “website deconstruction”. Moreover, emerging and established content platforms, including news aggregators, video sharing and ...

Dan Rutter has a wonderful retrospective on the first wave of home video recording systems, casting his wistful eye on 1972 and the launch of the "Cartivision." Like all dabbling attempts to release media, it appears that Cartivision also had their own corny proto-DRM scheme in place that contributed at least in part to its quick demise. But if you wanted actual cinematic films, you could only rent them. This, by itself, was not a disaster. ...

The recent attacks on SOHH and AHH are D Dos and cross script attacks so some of you may want to double check to make sure your databases are updated with the latest security patch. Earlier today Miss Theda also posted exactly how the security on these sites were broken. Be sure to check with your web hosting provider and/or system admin to ensure your servers and databases are patched.
