I’ve become familiar with Michael Pollan through books like The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food. Tonight I ran across the images above, which are pictures of his writing house. He built it himself (which is documented in an earlier book called A Place of My Own). Larger pictures are available on his website. I think he’s got Creativityist HQ pretty well beat. a michael pollan hq

It was announced yesterday that Amazon has acquired Shelfari. The site has received much acclaim for it’s brilliant user interface and its clear that the Shelfari team prioritized high quality execution with this effort and Amazon was obviously impressed enough to feel that outright ownership ...

I have a confession to make. I have been struck by SSM. As a consequence of that, my style quotient has been pretty low recently. You may think, ‘Oh, sure, whatever’, but allow me to explain. I have been sleeping in a black merino wool singlet, a pair of my father’s thermal long johns, & a pair of socks. This is not so bad — I mean, it’s not super-sexy, but hey — & I ...

Retro and vintage designs are often considered as being outdated, looking old, unattractive and dull. That’s not true. Although compared to modern design, retro is mostly a completely different realm, it has a large variety of benefits modern graphic designers often tend to overlook. And that’s a pity. Because we, as designers, can learn a lot from it. Nostalgic designs arise feelings, awake memories and better manage to involve broad range of readers even although ...

A wine store is a paradise for any graphic designer seeking inspiration. Most wine stores have thousands of bottles of wine, all of which are uniquely branded with a wine label. You could spend an entire weekend examining all the different wine label designs in a wine store and still not view them all. The wine industry is massive and branding is extremely important to wine companies whom spend many thousands of dollars branding their ...

iHologram - iPhone application from David OReilly on Vimeo. Speaking of iPhones, here’s some really brilliant work by David O’Reilly. You may have seen it already, as it looks like it’s made the rounds, but I love the technique. By doing anamorphic perspective warping of the 3D scene on the device, this app simulates a holographic 3D on the screen of the iPhone, courtesy the device’s motion sensors. Correction: Okay, it’s not actually possible to ...

Designers often combine their passions for design with other passions in life and a good example of this is taking a love of cars and turning that love into cool car wallpapers. Currently I have a space scene as the background of my computer, but I’m thinking of switching it to one of these cool car wallpapers for a while! My favorite car happens to be the Chrysler Crossfire, which unfortunately isn’t below so I ...
