Our brother site Gizmodo shows off its promiscuous use of every smartphone on the block in an informative explainer about the current roster of mobile operating systems out there, from Windows Mobile, iPhone 2.0, and Android to Symbian, BlackBerry, and Palm. I've been a flip-phone fan ever since my Motorola StarTAC days, but much of the smartphone market has stayed away from the form factor. There have been a few exceptions and RIM adds another one today with the launch of their BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 on T-Mobile's network. The 3.6-ounce handset is small like most flippers, only taking up 3.9” x 1.96” x 0.68” of space when folded. Even with the small size, RIM still ...

If it hadn't been leaked so damn much, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 would be something of a surprise. Not simply because it's the first-ever clamshell BlackBerry, but the fact that RIM went in this direction at all, especially when you look at the rest of its new phones, with their clean, almost aerodynamic lines, and compare them to this beefy slab of a phone. Landing on T-Mobile today, the big-boned Pearl Flip is aimed ...

Looking to get your BlackBerry invited to the live-streaming scene? Qik is out of the question because it only supports Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile devices for the time being. However, Next2Friends just announced support for their competing service on the BlackBerry Curve and Pearl handsets. The company already supports Symbian S40 & S60 devices as well as Windows Mobile 6 handhelds. You'll have to sign up for the free service first and then you ...

Next2Friends has released the first live video streaming client for newer Blackberry phones, like the Curve and the Pearl. Similar to Qik or Justin TV, you download the Next2Friends client to your phone, and it streams to the internet whatever your camera records. Qik has been around on the N95 for so long now that I kinda figured similar services had made their way onto to the Blackberry. I was wrong. In any case the ...

According to a leaked memo obtained by Mobile Tech Addicts, UK based cellphone carrier Orange have pulled the BlackBerry Bold off of their shelves temporarily citing quality issues with the device. What specific issues they are referring to are unknown, but Orange claims they are awaiting solutions from RIM and plan to have the device back on shelves in "a couple of weeks." As you probably already know, the US debut of the Bold has ...

You're more likely than ever to buy a smartphone, not just because they do so much more than dumb feature phones, with real email, decent web browsing and downloadable applications, but because they're cheaper than ever. With the exception of some expensive ass unlocked-but-unsubisized European models, you generally don't have to pay more than $300 for a balls-to-the-wall smartphone—though the voice plan plus data fees can easily run you $80 or more per month. Here's ...

In response to T-Mobile’s gPhone and AT&T’s iPhone, Verizon Wireless is getting a bPhone — the new BlackBerry Storm, which was leaked last week and officially announced this morning. The new BlackBerry 9530 appears to be the flagship smartphone of the world’s largest cellphone carrier, Vodafone, and is being first released by its partly-owned US subsidiary, Verizon Wireless. It melds the traditional BlackBerry features with an iPhone-inspired touch screen interface, showing that Research in Motion is ...

The BlackBerry syncing situation on Macs is, to put it lightly, abysmal (from RIM anyway). But it looks they're finally realizing people who own Blackberrys might just use a Mac too! Boy Genius brings us the first look at their BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac, a clean, appropriately Mactastic version of their standard PC program that'll sync music, photos, videos, and even iTunes playlists to BlackBerry devices. It's not the final version, so the options ...

We've known that the Motorola Q11 (an update to the Q9) was in the works, but today Motorola made it officially known. Maybe I'm the last person you should listen to when it comes to this particular Windows Mobile line, but I don't even think Motorola cares about this baby. It does have the requisite Wi-Fi, GPS, microSD support up to 32GB, a 3-megapixel camera and the ability to read H.264-encoded video, but with the ...

Research In Motion's iPhone substitute, the touchscreen-equipped BlackBerry Storm, has debuted. Perhaps a bit hastily. In the U.K., it's sold by Vodafone, which has displayed a page of specifications. The screenshots show the Storm displaying the iPhone's characteristic icons and Apple's Safari Web browser. Has Apple licensed the iPhone's operating system to RIM? No, what this looks like is a rushed-out product launch, and an overeager Web designer. Another shot:
