Here's the first trailer for No Heroics, the sitcom about superheroes hanging out in a bar that we mentioned the other day. It looks like a lovely mix of Mystery Men and The Specials, with genuinely funny, neurotic characters. I like the fact that the characters are funny for other reasons besides their superpowers, including their healthy supply of sexual neuroses. Let's hope No Heroics does for supers what The Office did for office-based comedies. ...

If you watched Hillary Clinton's speech last night, you joined millions of Americans who did the same thing. After several days of hype and "What if" questions, Senator Clinton finally took the podium and confirmed some of the rumors, while dispelling others. Still, her speech raised all sorts of questions: Was it enough to get her supporters to back Obama? Did she go after McCain hard enough? How come the only time CNN beats Fox ...

If you've watched any of JJ Abrams' scifi-themed shows over the years like Alias and Lost — or if you're lucky enough to have seen the season premiere of his new show Fringe before it airs Sept. 9 — you know the guy is obsessed with science. Well, not science as the journal Science would define it, but instead what characters in his new series call "fringe science." Stuff like UFOs, mutations, hallucinations, ESP, and ...

Apple iPhone TV ad banned in UK as ‘misleading’: The ad, which touts the iPhone’s ability to completely surf the Web, apparently didn’t take into account the problem the device had with surfing Web pages that use Flash and Java. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that the ad cannot be rebroadcast in its current form.

DENVER -- Moments after Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton rocked the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday by urging Sen. Barack Obama’s nomination by acclamation from the floor, a familiar-looking young man in an official green neon vest was on the floor, scurrying around the Virginia delegation, talking into a mouthpiece. He looked just like that stoner guy, Kumar, except sober. He also looked like Dr. Kuttner, the young physician from “House.” No wonder. It was Kal ...

This extremely obscure straight-to-DVD flick called Jekyll has three things going for it: Jekyll is played by the Middleman (yay!); it shares the same name as a really awesome BBC miniseries called Jekyll; and it has an egregiously silly cyber-themed "transformation" scene when geeky Jekyll becomes a gothy, Abraham-Lincoln-style Hyde in a cape. With black fingernails. This scene, which is an abbreviated version of that transformation and its stripper-soaked aftermath, captures for you the exact ...

The fine people at HBO, makers of the new scifi vampire show True Blood, are throwing a party in Chicago next week. And you're invited. There will be cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a special showing of the premiere of Alan "Six Feet Under" Ball's new series. Judging from what we've seen of True Blood, it's going to appeal to Buffy fiends and Forever Knighties alike. Plus, it'll pull in Desperate Housewives fans, just for good ...

Some new Astro Boy concept art has leaked out. Looks like the monsters our tiny robot hero will have to face are freaktasticly big go-go rocket boots. The new pics also include the first look at Dr. Tenma (the scientist who creates Astro Boy), and a giant alien or robot playing in a flower field. These pictures look gorgeous. I love the flying transports in Metro City. I'm also really impressed with Dr. Tenma, he ...

The term red states, blue states introduced America and the world to the notion of a polarized society, one that rallies around what makes us different over the common ground. Polarization in politics isn’t new, but today the middle ground appears weak, a notion of the greater good replaced by one of a blind ideological viewpoint of us and them. Sadly the new media and technology sector are moving in the same direction. Extremism on ...

The CW has released a video of the first few scenes of Gossip Girl's 2nd season premiere. The show, about bitchy, scheming Manhattan rich kids and three impoverished Brooklynites, returns next Monday (squee) and looks to begin with sex and making out and boobs! and more making out, and, heh heh, Jay McInerney. Yes the sadsack author makes a cameo as Dan Humphrey's (the chief Brooklyn poor) summertime mentor. He can be seen in this ...
