Jason and I were talking about some of the running events in the Olympics as we walked in to the office together this morning. After chatting about the marathon, he asked if I'd seen the Bolt 100 meter final. I did - and it was an amazing performance - but I was perplexed why Bolt coasted the last 20 meters and "only" did 9.69 when he most likely could have broken 9.60. Now - 9.69 ...

It's so obvious it's almost mathematical. After eight years of Bush -- if Obama is elected, everything will be different. Instead of a President who shoots from the hip and trusts his untrustworthy gut, you'll have a President who gets educated, and chooses teachers who really know their stuff. That's the change Obama will bring to Washington. The rest of it, if you were thinking that all of a sudden one day Washington would work ...

this is the issue democrats have to own up to. Obama is not the perfect person that we want to idolize him as. He is a politician but he is young and has new things to say and try.

True, people do think I am a bit of an asshole, but those are the types who take everything they read on the internet seriously.Anyway, you ever notice how when some dick writes about startups or entrepreneurship on his "Random Musings of an X Programmer" blog, he writes it with a holier-than-thou tone, implying that anybody who is not an entrepreneur is somehow either dumb or less of a man? You know, cocksteaks like Paul ...

Eric Eldon over at VentureBeat writes: Facebook has an internal valuation of $4 billion, as we’ve previously reported. It will begin letting current employees sell 20 percent of their fully vested stock options at that valuation, starting this fall, I’ve learned from well-connected sources. This is genius, from a talent management perspective. Early employees can reap the benefit of their hard work and will potentially help to lower the attrition rate. A nice reward to ...

The NY Times has a great short article up titled The I.B.M. Acquisition Machine: A Seller’s Perspective. It has several quotes from Pierre Haren, the co-founder of CEO of Ilog which IBM acquired on Monday for $340 million. I've been involved in the sale of two companies to IBM. While a brief article, the comments Haren makes ring 100% true with my experience.

John McCain's third straight attack ad. Okay, another day, another John McCain attack ad on Barack Obama. This one came in over the weekend. It's the third straight, as the McCain campaign is increasingly abandoning positive advertising in favor of negative ads on the frontrunner. Though the positive ad I wrote about on July 10th is still in rotation, at least for now. The latest Mac attack ad plays above. And here is the text: ...

In 2006, two guys from India came up with Scrabulous, a Scrabble-like game that took off only after it was transformed from a standalone Web site into a Facebook app. Hasbro, holder of the Scrabble trademark in North America, noticed, as did Mattel, holder of rights elsewhere, and asked them to take it down. They refused, and in January ‘08 the rights holders approached Facebook to kill the app. Facebook hedged, and there’s been an ...

Asian stoners, rejoice! Variety reports this morning that Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the writers of the first two Harold & Kumar movies, are back together for a third installment with Kal Penn and John Cho. As much as I like to pretend to be a movie snob, I’m proud to admit that I’m super excited about this news. I remember when I first heard about Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (most probably ...

I want to write a novel. What word processor do you recommend? Yesterday on the radio, Jimmy Wales was talking about the Wikipedia movement. A caller who identified himself as a strategist at Amnesty International asked: We're going to build a website to promote freedom and democracy and human rights. What software should we use? Really. If you want to do something worth doing, you'll need two things: passion and architecture. The tools will take ...

While checking out of a CVS last night I overheard a girl talking to the guy behind the cash register about her iPhone. She had the first version of the phone but appeared to be extremely satisfied with it. She was telling the cashier about all of the cool things she can do with the phone. “I can rent movies just like Blockbuster right on to my phone”, she said to the cashier. As she ...
