Due to the popularity of my first article regarding free alternatives to commercial Mac applications, I’ve decided to roll out a second part, shining the spotlight on more free applications for MakeUseOf’s Mac adopters. I hope you’ll like these applications just as well as their commercial counterparts, maybe even more since they’re free! Jing, as an alternative to iShowU ($20) Jing is a screen-casting program which has come a long way since it first started. ...

Because I was sick yesterday, I have a bit of catching up to do in terms of BlackBerry news. Good friend kyle from sister site QuicklyBored covered for me, but he doesn’t know anything about BlackBerrys and thinks the iPhone is great. I digress. Although I would easily shank a BBCool Intern in the back without blinking if it put a BlackBerry Storm in my hands. Playing with the BlackBerry Storm Flash Simulator at Vodafone ...

Vodafone has launched an interactive guide for the BlackBerry Storm 9500. One thing I noticed which I haven’t seen before is RIM is calling their Haptic feedback technology ClickThrough and also the Storm will support up to 16GB microSD memory cards (not 8GB!). Check out the Vodafone site and learn how to use this bad boy >> Also stay tuned (hopefully) for tomorrow’s BlackBerry Storm announcement… Here’s a full spec sheet from Vodafone as well:

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Windows Mobile, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, Android There's really no denying it -- T-Mobile's G1 and Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 are two of the hottest mobiles around right now, and as predicted, all sorts of sparks flew when the two sat down for a side-by-side photo session. In a Dutch comparison of the two handsets, reviewers pointed out that the G1 was "significantly larger" than the SE counterpart, and while ...

Tokyo Jogging is the name of a cool idea Ryo Katsuma, a renowned Japanese software engineer, single-handedly turned into reality in his spare time. Katsuma-san’s project is a mashup of Wii technology and Google Street View. Users can “run” through Tokyo by using a Wiimote (plugged into a PC) and with Tokyo on Google Street View as a background. This is an awesome idea and you can watch a tuturial video on how to install ...

“Aimed to launch on the the BlackBerry Storm’s version 4.7 operating system, the BlackBerry Application Center will allow the user to find, browse and install/upgrade third-party BlackBerry apps hosted by carriers.” Setting aside the fact that it’s aesthetically and typographically anemic compared to Apple’s, I wonder why RIM waited so long to do something like this. Can it really be that the idea didn’t occur to them until after the App Store launched? That they ...
