Introducing LinkedIn's Company Directory (13)
on The LinkedIn Blog (45) permalinkLinkedIn now has over 26 million professionals representing millions of companies. Back in March we mined this rich data to create Company Profiles for hundreds of thousands of companies and along the way discovered some cool information about companies (e.g. software engineering is the most common job title at LinkedIn etc). Last Thursday, we introduced the ability to search for companies based on industry, location, company size and network distance. So if you’re looking for ...Shared by AJ (719) atul (388) ClubEddy - clubeddy.com (2) Dr. Ernie (97) erhan (43) GeniusBoyWonder (59) Jeff (78) Jonathan (88) louisgray (496) Mike F (1622) Rob (346) Simon Young (26) Vinny Carpenter (39)Contribute comment

Is Linking to Yourself the Future of the Web? (35)
on O'Reilly Radar - Insight, analysis, and research about emerging technologies (399) permalinkLast year, Bill Janeway really got my attention (pdf) when he noted that "over time, Wall Street 'firms began to trade against their clients for their own account, such that now, the direct investment activities of a firm like Goldman Sachs dwarf their activities on behalf of outside customers.'" As I wrote in my blog post at the time, Trading for Their Own Account, "I thought, whither Google, Yahoo! and Amazon?" Time to "Free the Airwaves" (22)
on The Official Google Blog (319) permalinkFor quite some time we've been talking about the potential of the unused airwaves between broadcast TV channels ("white spaces") to provide affordable, high-speed wireless Internet connectivity nationwide. For this to happen, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) must allow unlicensed use of this spectrum. If you care about the future of the Internet, now is the time to take action. The FCC has completed its field testing and is expected to make a ruling in the ...Shared by Amihai (129) Aneel (93) atul (388) Benjamin (20) brownpau (188) cgsheldon (624) Damon (20) Dr. Ernie (97) Essam (6) Javed (381) Jimmy (26) Juan Diego (188) Lance Fisher (34) macbeach (9) Mike F (1622) Nick (22) Noah (29) Peter (21) pilgrimjohn (26) Reto (18) rOckY (546) Tony Ruscoe (20)Contribute comment

The dead zone of slick (43)
on Seth's Blog (903) permalinkThere was a terrific duo playing live music at the farmer's market the other day. They were well-rehearsed, enthusiastic and really good. Being a patron of the arts, I bought a CD. I hated it. I've thought a lot about what turned me off, and I think it's the curve above. Faced with the excitement of making a CD and all the knobs and dials, they overproduced the record. They went from being two real ...Shared by Alec Resnick (124) Alex Plank (25) Alexander van Elsas (25) Ben Corman (21) Ben Rowe (9) Bill Glick (23) billspaced (80) burkinaboy (493) chrisbrogan.com (84) Courtney (55) dasmart (92) Dr. Ernie (97) Eli (3) FlorinGrozea (62) GeniusBoyWonder (59) Heather (115) James (3) Jason (27) jfiorato (9) John (35) Jonathan Fields (47) JonMoss-theappleofmyi (260) Josh Lawton (7) Kelly O (27) Kneale Mann | RedFish Group (28) MDH (2) Message (6) Michael (15) Michael H (30) Mike (30) Nino (8) Ranvir (4) Rob (8) roel (35) Rudolf Olah (20) Sara Abrons (5) Scott (19) sturob (28) Sue B (54) Talk (42) Tim (1) Vegard (24) wrburgess (13)Contribute comment

Two little tidbits.. (8)
permalinkBoth should be construed as completely unsubstantiated rumors (which, unlike the rumor sites, I'm more than happy to point out are unsubstantiated....): First, I heard via one of those "friend of a friend" connections that Rob Schoeben was (to use their words" escorted off the Apple campus friday. Schoeben was the guy ultimately in charge of MobileMe, but was also VP of Applications Marketing (iLife, iWork, pro apps). Career update (2)
on Thought Palace (3) permalinkFYI, I ended up taking the position at Google. I started two weeks ago, and it’s been quite exciting, despite (or because of) the “drinking from a fire-hose” aspect of learning my way around the big G. I’m on the Google Sites team. I’ve been interested in wikis for years, and now I get to actually work on one. (Although Sites, née JotSpot, is not a typical wiki.) I could write a lot about my ...Shared by Dr. Ernie (97) Drew Olanoff (464)Contribute comment
