You remember those Tom Cruise Scientology interviews? Creepy stuff. They've been remade countless times by comedians, we know, but this is the first time we've seen them remade in the Half-Life 2 universe. Which makes it just as creepy, if not more so, because it's not too big a stretch imagining the Thetans being a part of the Combine. Which would make Tom Cruise, big-name Hollywood star, the harbinger of our ultimate destruction. Food for ...

Getting your album leaked online in advance of its official release is now standard operating practice in the music business. Nearly 10 years into the Napster era, many acts don't mind, and think of the inevitable leaks as free promotion. But some really don't want it to happen, and go through great effort to stop it -- without success. Radio-friendly hard-rock band Buckcherry, whose album Black Butterfly is being released in September, would like us ...

...they might not have been so different from these external drives from Meninos Design Studio. Acrylic cases coated in customizable vinyl, 250-500GB, 7200RPM drives are hidden behind your favorite take on glossy commercialism (from mock Red Bull containers to giant Marlboro packs...or even your own custom skin.) Our favorite is this little Pulp Fiction reference, but all of their designs beat yet another silver box: The USB-compatible cases alone go for $250. Bundled with hard ...

In this video, a shirtless inventor explains how he made a cell-phone activated stun gun to administer a shock to bike thieves. Bike thieves suck, so I decided to get even. Why not track and, if you'd like, shock these most egregious of folk? With a $40 pay-as-you-go cell phone, stun gun, and some basic electronic components, you can teach bike thieves a lesson and, hopefully, foster a small social change through individual action:) How ...

Here's a magnificent grid showing how a humble rock would be displayed by an enormous variety of video games' rendering engines, executed with affection and wit (Fipi Lele pointed out that the Zork version would be, "There is a rock here."). The rock is the perfect, Sluggo/Zippy-esque subject for this kind of comparison, absolutely bang-on. All I know about this image is that Kotaku apparently published it in April, 2006. Oh, and that it rocks. ...

The twisting, hilly streets of San Francisco are difficult enough to navigate without having to worry about a parking problem. Unfortunately for San Francisco residents, a parking crunch is exactly what's happening. The city's doing what it can to alleviate the problem, and that includes a $95.5 million program called SFPark that will convert 6,000 of San Francisco’s 24,000 metered parking spaces into "smart" spots. These special parking spots are currently being fitted with sensors ...

I feel like a huge geek about this, but I think this is a huge step towards better parking enforcement and payment. Next thing they need to do is make parking fees of fare market value, though some would call that "anti-car".

But as the excellent documentary Trekkies pointed out, it's a lot more odd when these fans wear the clothes home...and don't take them off. Photographer Steve Schofield has an amazing gallery of British science fiction fans dressed up at home in his collection "Land of the Free." We wasted far too much of our day appreciating these ...
