In this shakey cam tour (sorry) we go over the three most interesting functions in iMovie 09: The globetrotting map animations, an automatic shake stabilizer, and the zoomed in precision editor. Maps: • There are 4 versions of maps, each also in a flat mode (along with the original globe). One is a photorealistic map, one is a school map, one has beige continents and one has green continents. • If you're adding map animations ...

Plustek is introducing a not-so-mobile scanner that actually does have a mobile aspect. The BookReader V100 actually does read books for you, but it won’t write a book report for you. Sorry, kids! This $699 scanner takes print content and applies OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, to understand the written word. It then converts the scanned materials into .MP3 audio files, so you can essentially turn any book into an audio book for your digital ...

Finally providing a noticeable difference between the MacBook and MacBook Pro, Apple has pushed the Pro's screen to 17 inches, its price to $2799, and thrown in a high-capacity (non-replaceable!) battery. The new Pro has the unibody aluminum build—and virtually everything else—in common with its smaller 15" brother. But now you won't have to put your fancy new notebook next to the cheaper 13" variant to see what you've paid for. There are precious few ...

Energy-use tracking site WattzOn isn't the only site to measures personal energy consumption, but it offers seriously slick charts and data to suggest ways you might save cash, and the environment while you're at it. You don't have to sign up at WattzOn's site to get a readout and nifty/revealing numbers, but snagging and confirming an account lets you save your data for later comparison—with friends, WattzOn users, or estimated users around the world and ...

Recently, BrightQube contacted me to let me know about their service for stock photographers and stock purchasers, which gives purchasers the ability to search over 40 stock libraries. It has a very cool search and view function, with which I have only spent a few minutes and I’m not ready to pass judgment on the overall effectiveness of the site. However, it seems to be rather powerful. I’m interested in what you stock shooters out ...

Reader Kaelri—famous for the beautiful and functional Enigma desktop—has packaged and released version 1.1 of the customization files. What's changed? Kaelri explains: I've added: RSS reader. Gmail notifier. Calendar by ~limpet. System/battery graphics using ecqlipse 2 icons. Tray clock replacement. Quick-edit button for Notes. Application launcher. Useless to anyone with Launchy or StandaloneStack, but it's pretty, and way too much fun to play with. (You can see what it looks like in the deviantArt screenshot.) ...

Here are a few best features of iPhoto '09, including Faces and Places, which recognizes people in your albums and the locations you took those photos in. Cool stuff: separating your photos by people, which you can then scrub (move your mouse) over and see all the images of them you have. iPhoto is smart enough to try and recognize which people are which with semi-decent accuracy, and you'll have to confirm each one as ...

It could certainly be argued that the iPhone has sparked a new revolution of multi-touch capable mobiles phones and handheld devices. iPhone-esque phones seem to be rearing their heads every day, all sharing one common problem; they don’t recognize a tap from a gloved finger. For many users in warm climates this simply isn’t a problem, though Apple fans in the northern hemisphere struggle on a daily basis. In the UK, I find gloves to ...
