Detecting twitter users with JavaScript - handy or evil? (32)

Ajaxian » Front Page (2516) permalink
Earlier this week I blogged about a proof of concept that you can detect if a user is logged in to twitter and display their data with a few lines of JavaScript. This could be used to show for example "tweet this" buttons in a blog application. The trick is easy: use the user_timeline to get the correct data back and provide it with a callback: PLAIN TEXT JAVASCRIPT: function hasTwitter(data){ // gets the user's ...Shared by Alex (41) Andreas Stephan (1) Andy Davies (8) Anthony Cousins (31) ckaroli (37) cKdisco (15) Dan York (3) Daniel (34) Daver (145) Elroy Jetson (20) Ewout ter Haar (54) Henrik Berggren (2) JR A (17) kleinmatic (27) Konstantin Klein (36) Laurie (24) lgeeh (1) Matthew (86) Maurice Svay (10) natadd (44) Oncle Tom (15) Paolo Rossi (1) Phreak 2.0 (46) Richard Morrell (138) Robby R (31) Ryan Christensen (32) Shaun (17) Tony Hirst (9) Tortue (24) TweetCrunch (6) xrx (47) yudai hanza (20)Contribute comment - [Der Schockwellenreiter: Weblog-Archiv 07.01.2009] (1)

By Mike Fruchter of MichaelFruchter.com (Twitter/FriendFeed)Getting started with social media, whether for personal or professional use, requires learning the basic fundamentals. Social media is more than just creating a blog or Twitter account. The tools are great and give us big advantages, but they are simply extensions of how we engage and participate in social media, they are not the answers. The social in social media is all about the human element. This post touches ...Shared by Aad 't Hart (15) Aaron Adel (4) Aaron L. M. Die besten Politiker-Websites von gestern (6)

- Blackmail Is My Life said: This may be the most insightful thing Scoble's ever said about FriendFeed. If it's not meeting the basic need most people have for lifestreaming, i.e. condensing their online activity into one destination, then it's not working.
- Rob said: I totally agree. Twitter is constantly giving me new and interesting content to read. FriendFeed is too overwhelming, more so than even a bunch of unread feeds in Google Reader.

The demise of paper (yes, the stuff made from trees) has been a longstanding prediction. Ever since the first time we realized that we could conveniently find, consume, save, produce, or modify information via CPU, the old school printing press was put on notice. Still, old school newspapers, magazines, and books have held on, defying expectations and proving more resilient than many expected, making fools out of those who assured us otherwise. [Mac] Googles Picasa auf der MacWorld? (1)
