Exclusive: In what is likely to be a major shift in the company’s strategy, peer-to-peer startup Joost is going to stop making its desktop client. The decision to suspend the client is likely to be announced soon, I am told. The company is going to a browser-only strategy, in which much of its content is going to be available through a browser-based player. Joost, I am told, will release a small plugin that would embed ...

The video shows the relatively painless process (with Benny Hill theme music interlude) involved in the 400 ($5) 1.5GB transfer. Check it out after the break. Read | Permalink | Email this | ...

Won’t these silly DS rumors end anytime soon? They just might now that IGN seems to have the scoop on the upcoming dual touchscreen DS that’s said to be coming out in April or May of 2009. But it’s unclear whether this will be a complete hardware overhaul or an upgrade to the existing hardware. Furthermore, IGN is claiming that the new DS will have widescreen aspect ratios on top of the dual touchscreen functionality, ...

Not a day goes by that we don't get requests for Qik to support more devices beyond the several dozen on which our software already works. We have great teams in Russia and the US who are focused on just that: bringing Qik to as many handsets as possible. So we're pretty excited today to announce that Qik has released Windows Mobile clients which work on a variety of new phones. They include: HTC Touch ...

It's not what I would call a Bond-caliber revolving license plate, but the system that a Queens truck driver hooked up in his rig is chock-full of ghetto ingenuity. Apparently, Orlando Payano mounted his license plate on a hinged piece of metal then ran an attached cable through his cigarette lighter. When he went through a toll booth, all he had to do is pull the cord and abracadabra! No license plate caught on camera. ...

Logically speaking, it shouldn't be a huge surprise. But a friend in the industry told us that they've seen H.264 1080P video playing on the iPhone, quite a few times, with no problems at all. Of course, the resolution is absurd overkill for the system's screen, but what's this mean in light of the purported iTunes 8 HD? Potentially a lot. For one, if iTunes 8 indeed goes HD, the iPhone is more than ready ...

Are you lagging behind your friends in the Trophy department? Are they asking you, “Where are your skills?” Well, if you’re looking to get ahead, you’ve come to the right place. Super Stardust HD, one of the most popular (and critically acclaimed) downloadable games on the PLAYSTATION Network, was the very first title to support trophies. So why not start there? The gameplay is simple, but as you’ll see in the videos, the strategy involved ...

Filed under: PC, Simulations, Metareviews The review embargo lifted on Spore today, and the critics wasted no time weighing in on Will Wright's oft-delayed opus. The general consensus seems to be that an amazing level of quality is there, but depth may not be, which is really the last complaint we ever expected anyone to level at Spore. Go figure. The third annual Office 2.0 conference, which starts Thursday, is where people talk about getting real work done on the Web. There will be no robotic ice-cream machines at the San Francisco conference. Likewise, soft-core porn start-ups won't be showing up. Once again, I'm looking forward to hearing what's new in the world of work 2.0. First up are two productivity suites, one coming out Thursday from the hyperactive Zoho and another from a company ...
