This is a little bit genius. One of the new features of FriendFeed (a Twitter-like thingie) is "fake following". That means you can friend someone but you don't see their updates. That way, it appears that you're paying attention to them when you're really not. Just like everyone does all the time in real life to maintain their sanity. Rex calls it "most important feature in the history of social networks" and I'm inclined to ...

Interesting feature... I don't have any friends I'd want to fake follow, but it's good to know it's there. I haven't been using friendfeed as much recently, anyway.

The Kennedy tribute was touching, but it was Kennedy who was powerful. Walking out to chants of "Teddy, Teddy," Kennedy sounded strong and sharp. He's old now, and sick. He walks slowly and the mane has thinned. But he's still got that voice, that rumbling bass -- as Harold said to me this morning, "the last voice in American politics." The words, as they've always been, were clear, and the message was simple. Broadly, it ...

My hometown Columbus Dispatch has a column today in which a woman named Myrna Dupler, the daughter of a noted local architect named Howard Dwight Smith, is interviewed. Myrna is in her mid 80s now, and she's interviewed on the rooftop terrace of her apartment building, which overlooks the construction of the Columbus Clippers' new stadium. She has mixed feelings about it because her father was the architect for Cooper Stadium, the aging ballpark which ...

Old women can be so annoyingly persistent. Take these two old Chinese broads (pictured) who had the audacity to try and protest at the Beijing Olympics in one of the two areas officially designated for, well, protest: The women, Wu Dianyuan, 79, and Wang Xiuying, 77, had made five visits to the police this month in an effort to get permission to protest what they contended was inadequate compensation for the demolition of their homes ...

A surprising amount of the e-mail I get is not about basketball at all. It's about blogging. (If you're here for basketball talk, move along. I promise I won't hide some hot trade rumor five paragraphs down.) I'm happy to get those e-mails, because I think about blogging more than is healthy. When people e-mail about blogging, my answers tend to fit into one of these three categories: If you want to break into sportswriting, ...

Indiana qb Kellen Lewis served a mysterious suspension this past spring, one of those fun undisclosed ones that keeps you wondering where the crime lies somewhere between “missed some class” and “was caught fighting apes in the simian research facility for fun and profit.” Now we know what that suspension was for: excessive partying, and subsequent class absences and grade slippage. In his own words: “I must have thought I was in Los Angeles, Calif., ...

I'm not saying Wes Anderson totally sucks, but the inclusion of all of his movies somehow makes the entire Criterion Collection (which includes true classics such as "Seven Samurai," "This is Spinal Tap" and "RoboCop") less necessary and exclusive.

John McCain deems the Georgia-Russia war the “first serious crisis internationally since the end of the Cold War”: Satyam notes “the Gulf War, 9/11, and the Iraq War, to name a few” as possible alternatives. But beyond McCain’s seemingly poor memory, the interesting thing is the confusion in terms of high-level concepts. It was just a little while ago that McCain was giving speeches about how “the threat of radical Islamic terrorism” is “transcendent challenge ...

Like many of you, I’ve been hooked by the Olympic Games. I’ve consumed an extraordinary diet of gymnastics, swimming and beach volleyball on TV this past week. But while the Olympic Games has dazzled us with amazing feats, it’s also historic because it’s the first games where the Internet has played a pivotal role in how we experience the ...

The United States "Redeem Team" lived up to its Nike name on Thursday, cruising to a convincing 92-69 victory over Greece in Group B play. After easy wins over China and Angola, Team USA dominated its best competition so far in the tournament, slightly redeeming themselves from a loss to Greece in the semifinals of the 2006 World Championships — and yet still you're not impressed. Here's a few comments that didn't make the cut ...

Though many will debate the importance of Scottie Pippen's role in helping the Michael Jordan lead Chicago Bulls to two three-peats, I for one think that he was instrumental, but I digress, there is no debating that Pip's first signature sneaker with Nike is a classic. For the first time since their initial release in the '90s, the Nike Air Pippen 1 is set to make it's return like a young looking Scottie in the ...
