For years, books and articles and blogs on productivity have been showing us how to be more productive: crank out the tasks, multi-task, work faster, be organized. I think it’s hard for a lot of people to imagine what it really looks like, what it really takes to go from an idea on a piece of paper to a profitable business with real people, real equipment, investors, a product, etc. More difficult yet, what does it look like to start your company? What does it feel like? It’s the vision that’s tough. It’s hard to see all of the steps from beginning ...

For whatever reason, Apple decided not to allow “landscape mode” on iPhone email. If you want to turn the phone when the web browser is open and get the larger keyboard that makes two thumb typing realistic, no problem. But the email app is portrait only. Now a new iPhone application called TouchType (iTunes link) fixes the problem. Open the application and you get a landscape mode keypad. type an email, hit the send button ...

Some people want to do things because they are interesting. Some people want to do things because they work. Some people want to do things because everyone else is doing them. And some people are satisfied/scared/shy/lazy and don't do anything. Think about blogging or buying a new pair of shoes or voting for a candidate or picking one career over another. Different people have very different agendas. The key in understanding someone's actions is understanding their agenda. ...

Filed under: Education, Developer, App Store, SDKDear Auntie TUAW, I've been thinking about trying my hand at development for the iPhone (I've got some good app ideas already), and I was wondering where a good place to start might be. Should I mess around with learning some Objective-C first, or just spend the $99 and dive in with the dev kit? I know some PHP, Javascript, and a smattering of C++, but have never tried ...

He claims that you can start on any level you like in Imagine Poker by shaking the device on the splash page until you hear a "giggle." The trick is that the code will only work if it is attempted exactly on the quarter hour (1:15 / 1:30 / 1:45 ...
